The spec sheet

Every kit comes with a tuning spec sheet.

A card listing the measured resonant frequency of every head, top and bottom, and the genre it was tuned for. If you bring the kit back later, or hand the card to whoever tunes it next, it can be set to the same sound again.

  • Repeatable across sessions
  • Consistent for teaching studios and churches
  • Useful for drumline handoffs
  • Faster re-tunes

FAQ

Common questions

Don’t see yours? Ask directly.

How much does drum tuning cost?

A Tune-Up on a 4-piece kit is $100 (batter and reso heads, rod lube, hardware check, bearing edge inspection), plus $15 per additional drum. Rehead & Voice is $150 plus heads. Full restorations start at $300 with a final quote after inspection.

Do I bring the drums to you, or do you come to me?

Either. Drop-off at our home shop is the default. Travel is free within roughly 15 minutes of us, $30 elsewhere in Utah County, and $60 in Salt Lake County, with a $150 minimum job for travel bookings. We don't travel outside Utah and Salt Lake Counties.

What is the tuning spec sheet?

Every kit goes home with a card listing the measured resonant frequency of each head, top and bottom, plus the target genre. Bring the kit back, or send us the card, and we can set it to the same sound.

Should I supply my own heads?

You can, but you don't need to. We source heads directly, match sizes and models to your kit, and bill them with the job so there's no guessing.

Where do I get drums serviced now that Salt City Drums is closed?

Utah Drums is a dedicated tuning and repair service covering Utah and Salt Lake Counties. For bearing edge and shell work we partner with local custom builders rather than shipping kits out of state.

I just bought a used kit on KSL. What do I need?

Usually a Rehead & Voice ($150 plus heads) is enough. If the kit has been sitting a long time or has rust, a Full Restoration is the better option. Send photos and we'll tell you which.

What are your hours?

By appointment only. Call, text, or email to schedule. Evenings and weekends are often available.

Do you offer a plan for churches, schools, or studios?

Yes. The Maintenance Plan is $250 per year for two visits, priority scheduling, and 10% off heads. Drumlines replacing marching heads on a season schedule get bulk pricing.
